The indications for chlorpromazine treatment are anxiety, tension and agitation apprehension before anesthesia induction.
Moderately effective in nausea and vomiting.
Chlorpromazine is used in conjunction with pethidine for premedication in anesthesia producing "potentiated anesthesia".
Side Effects
Side effects include drowsiness, dryness of the mouth, pallor of the skin, postural hypotension, weakness, lowering of body temperature, disturbances of heart rhythm, rapid heart rate, insomnia, depression or sometimes agitation, photo sensitivity, and skin rashes. Patients should be examined periodically for abnormal skin pigmentation or eye damage, and chlorpromazine withheld if necessary.
